Privacy Policy for Whispers of our Discontent
Effective Date: April 7, 2026
1. Introduction
Welcome to Whispers of our Discontent. I built this app to be a safe, ephemeral, and entirely anonymous space for you to vent your frustrations. Because anonymity is the entire point of this project, I designed the architecture to collect the absolute bare minimum amount of data required to make the app actually work.
This Privacy Policy explains exactly how I handle your data when you use my app.
2. Information I DO NOT Collect
To ensure your absolute privacy, I built this app to function without needing to know who you are. I do not request, collect, or store:
- Names, usernames, or account profiles.
- Email addresses or phone numbers.
- Passwords or login credentials.
- Precise GPS location data.
- Your contacts or device media libraries.
3. Information I DO Collect
To keep the app running, I only collect the following limited data:
- Audio Recordings: When you use the “Confessional” feature to record a whisper, the app collects that specific 10-second audio file so it can be played back to others.
- Anonymous Device Identifiers: The app generates a randomized, anonymous session ID or device token. I use this strictly for internal logic—like preventing spam and making sure my community flagging system works properly (so one troll can’t flag the same audio clip 50 times). It is completely randomized and cannot be tied back to your identity.
- Usage Data & Analytics: I may collect basic, anonymized crash reports. As a solo developer, this just helps me figure out if the app is crashing on certain devices so I can fix the bugs.
4. How I Use Your Information
The audio you record is uploaded to the cloud and added to a randomized, public playback stream (“The Void”). Anyone using the app might hear your recording. Because of this, please do not dox yourself. I strongly advise against speaking any personal information (like your name, address, or where you work) into your recordings.
5. Data Retention and Deletion (My 24-Hour Promise)
Honestly, I do not want your data. Storing data is expensive, and it defeats the purpose of the app.
- Automatic Deletion: Every audio clip uploaded from the app is automatically and permanently deleted exactly 24 hours after upload. I do not keep backups. I do not maintain archives. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.
- Community Moderation Deletion: If an audio clip receives multiple flags from listeners for being offensive or violating basic community decency, the database instantly and permanently deletes it, regardless of how much time is left on its 24-hour clock.
6. Third-Party Services
I use third-party Backend-as-a-Service (BaaS) providers (like Firebase or Supabase) to host the database and temporary audio storage. These services only process the anonymized audio files and device tokens as instructed by my strict 24-hour deletion rules.
7. Children’s Privacy
I did not build Whispers of our Discontent for children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your region). Due to the unmoderated, user-generated nature of the audio stream, the app is strictly for mature audiences. If I find out the app has inadvertently collected audio from a child under 13, I will manually delete it immediately.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
I might update this Privacy Policy from time to time as the app grows or as app store rules change. If I make major changes, I will update the “Effective Date” at the top of this page.
